Northbound: Miami to Chicago
The usual route takes Florida's Turnpike and I-75 north through Atlanta and Chattanooga, I-24 to Nashville, then I-65 through Louisville and Indianapolis into the Chicago area. At about 1,380 miles, it is one of the longer runs we plan from Miami, and a solo driver covers it within hours-of-service limits, logged on the ELD.
Typical transit is 2 to 3 days. Winter matters on the northern half of the route: snow and ice in Indiana and Illinois can slow a run, and we tell you when weather changes the estimate instead of letting the appointment slip quietly.
Chicago freight areas we serve
Chicagoland freight spreads across the suburbs. The I-55 corridor through Bolingbrook and Romeoville and the Joliet area along I-80 hold some of the largest distribution buildings in the Midwest. Elk Grove Village, next to O'Hare, is one of the biggest industrial parks in the country. We also deliver in the city and in Northwest Indiana.
- Large distribution centers receive by appointment: send the number with the tender
- City receivers often need the liftgate and a tight delivery window
- Chicago appointments run on Central time, one hour behind Miami: put CT on the appointment
- Winter loads get weather slack built in for Indiana and Illinois
Florida to Midwest trucking, and back
The corridor does not have to start or end in Chicago. Florida to Midwest trucking covers Indianapolis, Louisville and Nashville along the same interstates, and we quote other Midwest points on request. Southbound, we pick up from Midwest manufacturers and distributors and deliver across South and Central Florida, which brings our trucks back toward their Miami base.
Because that southbound leg heads home, ask dispatch about space before you post a Midwest-to-Florida load to a board. A few pallets can ride as a partial truckload and share the cost of the long haul.
Planning a long haul
Long hauls reward good planning. Send the appointment times at both ends, the pallet count and whether the freight stacks, and we build the run around hours of service. For more on how we plan interstate transit, see interstate box truck freight. Freight that cannot wait goes expedited, and steady weekly volume belongs on one of our dedicated lanes for brokers.
